Hemant Chakma is an accomplished wildlife graffiti artist, illustrator, and filmmaker, celebrated for his innovative approach to blending art and conservation. As the founder of Graffiti Throttle, he has redefined creative activism by using graffiti art to promote environmental awareness and address pressing issues such as human-wildlife conflict.
A 2016 graduate of the prestigious College of Art, New Delhi, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Hemant has always been driven by a passion for storytelling and visual expression. His journey as an artist was further enriched by a year-long fellowship in documentary filmmaking at Green Hub, where he specialized in impactful narratives focused on environmental and social challenges.
In 2019, Hemant collaborated with multiple production houses as a cinematographer and video editor, showcasing his versatility by directing documentary films that gained recognition at renowned film festivals. His creative pursuits also extended to the fashion industry, where he excelled as a photographer and filmmaker, showcasing a keen eye for aesthetics and storytelling.
From 2023 to 2024, Hemant immersed himself in wildlife photography, working closely with iconic species such as sloth bears, elephants, and tigers. This transformative experience deepened his connection with nature, sparking a profound commitment to wildlife conservation.
Graffiti Throttle embodies Hemant’s vision of art as a catalyst for change. By creating stunning graffiti murals in urban areas, remote villages, and forest-edge conflict zones, Hemant uses his art to engage communities, foster dialogue, and inspire collective action. Each piece of art is a testament to his dedication to conservation and his belief in the power of creativity to bridge the gap between humans and nature.
